Israel Emergency Response

Amid Iran’s missile attacks on Israeli civilians, CityServe Israel is launching the “Adopt a Family, Adopt a Shelter, Stand With Israel” campaign. This unique program encourages support for displaced families while resourcing shelter improvements in areas under attack.

Since Iran’s recent attacks on Israeli civilians began, hundreds of families, many with young children, have been forced to evacuate their homes and are now living in hotels or temporary housing without access to basic necessities. Tragically, many of these are the same families that were already displaced by the Hamas terror attacks on October 7, 2023.

“In ancient Israel, whenever life was in danger, the watchman on the wall would blow the shofar to signal for help,” said CityServe Israel Director Uri Steinberg. “That’s what we’re doing with this campaign. We’re sounding the alarm, alerting every American and every church that we can that our brothers and sisters in Israel desperately need our help. We want every single Israeli family to know that in the face of this evil, they do not stand alone.”

The Golovan Family

One family’s story

I, Daniel, was born in Moshav Ein HaBesor. My childhood was filled with neighbors and friends who were like family, in a close-knit community surrounded by the beautiful Negev nature. When Ayala was born, David and I knew we’d raise our children here.

Before October 7th, our children were educated locally, with nature as a significant part of their daily lives. I worked as a special education teacher in Netivot, a nearby town, while David worked in IT from home. We had a pleasant, peaceful routine as a young family.

After October 7th, our world changed completely. The emotional turmoil was immense, accompanied by heartache that still hasn’t let go. We moved through several apartments across the country, the children attended multiple kindergartens, and I had to leave my job.

Now, in the summer, we’re returning to the moshav, hoping to live a quiet and secure life. We’re excited and looking forward to the moshav’s tranquility, the views of the fields, the smiles and hugs from our community members, and the sense of home that can’t be found anywhere else.

The Golovan family togther.
In the wake of the horrific October 7th Hamas attack in Israel, the resilient residents of Moshav Ein HaBesor and neighboring communities are determined to reclaim their sense of normalcy and solidarity.

With your support, we will construct vital facilities that will enable true healing with:

  • A new sports complex where children can play safely, complete with a modern tennis facility, ninja training area, brand new soccer field, and fully-equipped basketball court.
  • A sheltered community and activity center for the elderly community with proper protection will provide the peace of mind they desperately need after such trauma. This vibrant hub will feature 3 pickleball courts and spaces for enriching activities, restoring happiness to those deeply impacted.

Beyond just rebuilding infrastructure, these projects will transform damaged areas into vibrant, modern spaces that rebuild lives – giving all generations a brighter future in the region they call home.

Join us in reclaiming this extraordinary community’s strength and solidarity for years to come.

CityServe’s Rescue Operation

Ein Habesor, an Israeli “moshav,” or settlement, strategically positioned just 3 miles west of Gaza.

The settlement occupies a small area squeezed in between the Gaza strip and the Negev desert. Yet it accounts for over 60% of all produce generated in Israel.

Since the heartless terror attacks on Oct. 7 that devastated Israel, however, its fields have gone untended. Residents of the settlement evacuated and fled north. They are now living day-to-day in hotels, and unless something is done soon their harvest will go to waste.

Families of Ein HaBesor Need Our Help

Ein Habesor’s Bravery

On Oct 7th, when Hamas attacked Ein HaBesor, Dr. Yftach Gepner had nothing but a stone to defend his community, as their security team had only 4 rifles among them. His narrow escape was reported by The Times of Israel.

After harrowing accounts of fighting Hamas, and miraculous escapes, 320 families (over 1,000 people, 400 children)) from Ein HaBesor moshav (an Israeli agricultural co-op) are displaced after the Oct 7th terrorist attack.

In 1982 families who were evacuated from the Sinai Peninsula, following the Israel-Egypt peace agreement, built what is known today as the thriving agricultural community of Ein Habesor. The founding members worked hard to cultivate the difficult land, but in doing so have created The Breadbasket of Israel, where 60% of all Israeli produce is grown.

The Besor Valley, where the moshav is located, has Biblical significance as well and is mentioned in 1 Samuel 30 when King David and his men recovered what was stolen from them by the Amalekites. Due to the miraculous favor and direction of the Lord, not one wife, child, good, or livestock was missing.

Ein HaBesor, translated Spring of The Good News, experienced miracles themselves on Oct. 7th. Their small security team happened to be reinforced and activated just recently after some theft by Bedouins in the area, unknowingly preparing them for what lay ahead. And, miraculously, despite being outnumbered, they fought off the terrorists, not one life abducted or murdered that day by Hamas.

Unfortunately, because of their proximity to Gaza, after the attack, the essential evacuation has left the farmland without workers. With fruits and vegetables rotting, and plants remaining unattended and unharvested, the economic ripple effect of losing over half of Israel’s produce will be massive. Much is needed to be done before Ein HaBesor’s residents can return home. Meanwhile, they remain scattered, mostly in Eilat, with needs to keep their lives going as evacuees. We are calling on Christians to step up and help the families of Ein HaBesor in their time of need.

From CityServe’s Israel Director Uri Steinberg, “They’re an incredible community, now living as refugees, unable to return home. What happened to them on Oct. 7th was a miracle, and they will serve as the regional revival force, helping many other communities in the region to re-birth.”
